HOW DO YOU MEASURE FOR YOUR PILING CAPS?

Measuring for piling tops is a straightforward process that will give your dock a professional appearance.

There are two ways to measure the pilings:

Method 1: Determine the Diameter

  1. Make sure the pilings are at the desired height. Before measuring your piling caps, you'll need to make any final cuts.
  2. Take a couple of diameter measurements to the top of the pile and pass through the center point.
  3. For your piling measurements, use the largest measurement.
  4. For each pile, write down the measurement.

Method 2: The String Method

  1. Make sure the pilings are at their ideal height. Perform any final cuts before measuring the piling caps.
  2. Tie a length of string around the top of your pile, where the piling cap would go, to make sure it's tight but not too tight.
  3. Measure or cut out the length of the string.
  4. Use a measuring tape to determine the length of the string.
  5. Divide the length of the string (circumference) by 3.14159 (pi) to determine the diameter of your pile.
  6. For each pile, write down the measurement.

Remember, it is essential to measure every pile when you have measurements, as the cap size of each pile differs. If your measurements are incompatible with a piling cap's length, pick up the larger size to ensure you have an appropriate fit.

HOW DO YOU INSTALL PILING CAP LIGHTS?

Install them according to the instructions given by the manufacturer when you use a mounting cap light. For solar piling cap lights, install them at intervals of six feet to avoid the light of one affecting the solar sensor of another.
