PROTECT YOUR DOCK WITH PILING CAPS

We stock piling caps in dozens of sizes ranging from 4″ to 20″ in black, white, and copper options. An injection-molded process makes these caps superior in strength, flexibility, and dimensional consistency. Each piling cap is infused with mildew inhibitors and UV stabilized for maximum protection against harsh sun damage. These piling caps will stand up to the harsh marine environment and keep birds from roosting, extending the life of pilings many years.

FAQs

WHAT SIZE PILING CAP DO I NEED?

To check the size you need, measure the diameter across the top of each piling. If the diameter of a piling is between sizes, we recommend sizing up to the next closest option. Caps should fit as tightly as possible to provide maximum protection, but they don’t provide any stretch.

For example:

  • If the diameter of a piling is 6.5”, you’ll need a 6.5” cap
  • If the diameter of a piling is 11.3”, you’ll need an 11.5” cap

Our black and white pile caps come in 0.5” increments, and our copper cone caps come in 0.25” increments.

Not all pilings are uniformly sized, so we recommend measuring each piling at least twice to ensure accuracy.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FLAT AND CONE PILING CAPS?

Flat piling caps have a flat top that mimics the natural shape of each piling. Cone caps are peaked and end in a point.

Both options will protect your piling from sun and water damage. However, cone caps can discourage birds from roosting on top of the piling because of their pointed shape.

We carry flat piling caps in sizes from 5.5”–18”. Our black and white cone caps range from 4”–20”, while our copper cone piling caps are from 7”–13” and come in 0.25” increments.

WHAT MAKES COPPER PILING CAPS DIFFERENT?

In addition to our standard black and white caps, we also carry round copper cone piling caps and copper sheeting to custom fit whatever size you need.

Copper is special because, under the right conditions, it can last nearly a lifetime. Copper also adds a beautiful touch to any dock or marina as it fades naturally over time to a green patina—the same shade as the Statue of Liberty.

HOW DO YOU INSTALL DOCK PILING CAPS?

Installing piling caps is easy with screws or nails. First, pre-drill holes around the bottom of the caps—we recommend 3 evenly-spaced holes for round piling caps. Then, place the caps onto each piling and make sure they fit tightly. Drill screws or hammer nails into the piling to secure the caps. Piling caps should fit flush against the piling and not warp or pucker at any point.

We recommend using copper nails or stainless steel exterior decking screws designed for exposure to marine environments.
